So, in episode 211 we took a look at The Raccoons, which, whilst awesome, may be seen as a somewhat guilty pleasure in the eyes of some.
The question for next week's podcast then is this: which cartoons/programmes from the 80's do you love, but which you're quite aware would probably also be considered as a guilty pleasure?

Raccoons a guilty pleasure? From whom, teh norms? It did a better job at getting kids to enjoy nature and the enviroment than Captain Planet and the Planeteers ever did. Then again, I was a country boy anyway, so what do I know? Guilty pleasures? In the 80s? Hmm..... Chucklevision. More importantly, the Chucklevision theme tune. I guess watching Doctor Who as it aired in the 80s could be considered a guilty pleasure? The BBC would certainly think so at the time. Noseybonk is no one's guilty pleasure. And if he is, I worry for their mental wellbeing. This is hard. Screw it: Paul Daniels.

Hi Guys
I watched the Raccoons and never considered (or even thought of) it as a guilty pleasure.
So this could be a little tricky...
1. She-ra.
As a show that on face value seemed to be aimed at girls... As I wasn't one of those, I always wondered whether I should have been watching it. But then it had Hordak in it and he was awesome, and it introduced a prominent female character into the Master's franchise who wasn't an irritating little brat like Teela.
Some time during Turtles run, the group of my friends for some reason decided that it was going out of fashion... It was about the time, it was decided... we were now too old to be watching cartoons (unless it was the Simpsons) I think it was a universal thing rather than age related (when the He-man, Transformers, Thundercats era was thought to be over) we were only 9 or 10.
This does stretch things past the threshold of the 80's and into the early 90's. But for the reason stated, the following:
2. Turtles (Season 2ish and onwards).
3. Thundercats after it had the nunchuks editted out, and finally returned in the early 90's.
4. 90's X-men cartoon.
5. Animals of Farthing Wood
It might have been Game of Thrones for animals. But it was still a cartoon.

The guiltiest of my guilty pleasures during the 80's was "Strawberry Shortcake in Big Apple City". The story in short: Strawberry Shortcake is challenged to a bake-off by the Purple Pieman. The contest was televised by Coco Nutwork, a one-man TV station. Watching Coco scramble from camera to control room to announcer mic was laugh out loud funny to me. I tried the other Strawberry Shortcake specials afterward, but they were nothing but bland girls formula toons. For one episode I was into Strawberry Shortcake, fruit puns and all. Another series I have heard nothing but grief about is Galaxy High School. I still have a fondness for this toon. The plot centered on two kids, Amy the nerd and Doyle the jock, chosen to be the first Earthlings to attend Galaxy High. On arrival their fortunes are immediately reversed. Amy's intelligence makes her a star and Doyle's athlete bravado makes him enemies with almost everyone. That was a hook for a geek like me. The series was developed by Chris Columbus, director of the first two Harry Potter films. Some style choices in the pilot episode of Galaxy High hint at things Columbus would do later with Harry Potter. Another highlight was the voice work. Amy is one of Sue Blu's lesser known roles but still well done. Also enjoyed classic cartoon voice actor Howie Morris as Professor Icenstein and Luigi La Bounci. The stories revolve around stereotypical teen issues and some episodes do get preachy. However the oddball characters appeal to me enough that I can overlook the occasional heavy-handed moralizing. And finally I am a proud brony since 2010 and shall be for life.

I'm not a fan of the term "guilty pleasure". I you like something, and you think it's cool, then you shouldn't feel guilty about it. That being said, a few shows for me that most likely would fall into that category include: Too Close For Comfort, Mr. Belvedere, Punky Brewster, Small Wonder, Benson, Alice, Good Times and What's Happening. (Ahh...summer vacation with UHF television). On the cartoon front, I'll include Pac-Man, The Get Along Gang, Care Bears, Rainbow Brite, Heathcliff, Gobots, and Filmation's Ghostbusters.

This really isn't a challenge. Well not so much of deciding which few to put here. And from the looks of things most of these ones are not what many would pick. But it all comes from Havimg 2 younger sisters back in the 80's and seeing some shows that back then boys would have been expected to have no interest in at all. Well for this guy who in time would happily be down with multi-coloured Marshmallow equines with butt tattoos In 2010 that was a happy turn of events. Cause there were some villans in most fun these shows and In the case of Charmkins........let's leave it at , you definitly wouldn't see that whole thing with the leader of the bad guys in any show today with out a with hunt. Blathering aside this would be them Charmkins youtu.be/12uRPS7S7oEGlofriends youtu.be/ex7JMN5-za0Moondreamers youtu.be/21JNaT5SaSgThe Adventures of Teddy Ruxpin www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLD2748F698F4B8C1CYogi's Treasure Hunt www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL5B8D1A80ECA86628My Little Pony Rescue from Midnight Castle Part 1 youtu.be/we6D9roNMp8Part 2 youtu.be/lxcwTSvyU6MPart 3 youtu.be/6kzHPWx_nQ0

THERE ARE NO GUILY PLEASURES BOY!
well. There are, but you pay extra for them, and this is not the time or place.....
Howeer. Over the years, I have come to a frightening conclusion. The rest of the world appears to hate Howard The Duck, whilst , being a right minded individual, love that film, OR! o be more precise, the cut of HTD that we owned in Dubai when I was a kid. Trustme, its a verrrry different film. That being said though, I still to this day adore that movie.

I'm looking forward to the bit in Guardians of The Galaxy 2 when Star-Lord has to ask about Howard (presumably Rocket can explain?)
Meanwhile, I'm not sure I had any guilty pleasures (at least, not that I remember as such, though that ain't saying much.)
